Mountain Fuel Supply Co. and Ford Motor Co. have received the Institute of Industrial Engineers Award for Excellence in Productivity Improvement for their exceptional achievements in productivity and quality improvement.
The awards were presented during the 1990 International Industrial Engineering Conference in San Francisco.By customizing management philosophies such as total quality management, manufacturing resource planning, computer-integrated manufacturing these organizations have made a commitment to changing their corporate culture to better meet their customers' needs; increase communication through teamwork, studying and changing the processes to streamline operations; and measure the result to assure continued improvement, the citation said.
Mountain Fuel won the award in the service category and Ford won in the manufacturing category.
Mountain Fuel beat the competition for its development of a comprehensive productivity improvement environment in the energy industry. The judges ranked the utility as exceptional for the innovative application of a wide range of industrial engineering tools by all employees, its "competitive edge" training program and ADP/personal computer technology application.
Ford was nominated for effectively changing its corporate culture to focus on continuous improvement of products and services to meet customer needs, its employee involvement and framework for change to meet the competition.
