Summer means a flurry of activity and exercise and it also means people can put themselves at greater risk for heat-related injury, the American Running & Fitness Association reports.
"Heat is one of the few things that can kill an otherwise healthy person," said Susan Kalish, executive director for the association. "Summer is one of the most popular times for athletes and soon-to-be athletes to exercise outdoors."No one should let the hot weather stop them. But they should be careful."
The association offers a brochure on how to prevent illness and injury when exercising in hot weather. For more information, write: American Running & Fitness Association, 9310 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda MD 20814.
