An early morning fire caused an estimated $250,000 damage Saturday to an LDS church in the Sunland-Tujunga area of the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

The fire at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 7955 W. Hillrose St. was reported at 3:47 a.m., Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.Eight companies of firefighters extinguished the blaze 29 minutes later at 4:26 a.m., Acevedo said.

The blaze caused an estimated $200,000 to the building and another $50,000 to its contents, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
