Experts destroyed a bomb that was left behind as a booby-trap by the man who built a methamphetamine lab in an old church building.

A chemical explosion occurred at the building last week, causing a brief evacuation of neighbors. Some were evacuated again Monday afternoon while officials removed the bomb that had been left by the drug manufacturer.

While cleaning out the building Saturday, officials found the device. They already had found a trigger mechanism, which was not attached to anything, so they knew to look for a bomb, Tooele County Sheriff Don Proctor said.

About 2:30 p.m., Monday officials removed the bomb. It was taken to the Dugway Proving Ground and destroyed without incident.

Numerous dangerous chemicals remain in the church building. One week may pass before they are removed, Proctor said.
