McDonald's Corp. says complete nutrition information on all permanent menu items will be posted for customers at all of its more than 8,200 restaurants by the end of July.
The posters to be displayed will list both ingredients used and nutritional values, McDonald's USA President Ed Rensi announced.Rensi said the move will make the fast-food giant the first restaurant chain to offer such complete nutrition and ingredient information on all permanent menu items.
"As a food-service company, we care about both nutrition and our customers," Rensi said. "It only makes sense to do everything we can to address both."
A company spokesman denied the decision to post the information was made in reaction to newspaper ads that appeared across the country April 4 charging McDonald's hamburgers and french fries were "poisoning" consumers with cholesterol.
The ad was placed by an Omaha, Neb., group calling itself the National Heart Savers Association, headed, founded and funded by millionaire Phil Sokolof.
Rensi said the chain has added to its menu to include a variety of dietary choices and has reduced fat, cholesterol and sodium in its products.
