Edward Charles McGowan died Tuesday, June 19, 1990, of cancer.
Born November 25, 1919 in Youngstown, Ohio to Jack J. and Clara Sturm McGowan. Married Bette Hinch, May 1944, she died December 1978. Married Pat Torp, July 1979. Ed served 30 years in the Navy as a test pilot; and distinguished himself as a Fighter Ace in World War II winning the Navy Cross, three distinguished Flying Crosses and five air medals. Ed always saw the sunshine above the clouds when he was flying.Survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Edward Charles McGowan, Jr., Richard McGowan, Dennis McGowan; 14 grandchidren; brother William McGowan. Funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the St. Vincent's Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane (5000 So.). Friends may call at the church Friday, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment Fort Douglas Cemetery. Funeral directors, Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ed's memory to the American Cancer Society, 610 East South Temple, SLC, Utah 84102. A good man has left the world today, we love you and we will miss you!
