Flags and banners are waving in Boise as Idaho's capital city gets ready to celebrate the state's centennial - the 100th anniversary of admission to the union on July 3, 1890.

Some 1,500 special occasions have been planned during the year. But the biggest one is a 43-hour celebration for the 43rd state in Boise over the Fourth of July holiday.The events will begin Tuesday afternoon, when Gov. Cecil Andrus and special guests arrive on a centennial train, pulled by a steam engine which Union Pacific sends onto the main line only for special occasions.
