Gunnison Valley High School has lost its football coach only weeks before the program's first season begins.

David Gray was approved for the post but resigned because of an accident in Canada which took the life of a sister-in-law and left his brother disabled. The would-be coach said he felt a responsibility to his brother and four children to return to Ontario.Applications again are being accepted for the coaching/math teacher position. Previous applicants will be considered as well as those who apply for the first time.

Football will be a part of the sports program at the high school for the first time this fall. The school must provide a regulation field, so South Sanpete School District officials are looking at using the Snow College field for home games or playing all of them at competitors' fields until the new field at Gunnison can be used.
