Singer Dolly Parton will receive an honorary doctorate by Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., Oct. 21 for her contributions to the educational and economic welfare of East Tennessee. Officials say Parton has been offered honorary degrees by other institutions, but this is the first one she will accept, and school officials are especially pleased that the Sevierville, Tenn., native is accepting.
