George Thomas Brooks, 64, died July 26, 1990.

Born of Welsh heritage, March 6, 1926, Park City, Utah to Samuel and Winnifred Parry Brooks. He was raised in Salt Lake City where he attended South High School and received an under graduate and graduate degrees in Education from the University of Utah. At 18 years of age he was drafted into the Infantry and served in Europe until the end of World War II. He was an educator in the Salt Lake School District for 31 years, serving as an elementary school teacher, principal and an administrator. He admired and loved his students, co-workers and the many fellow educators who shared his dedication to public education. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for which he served as a missionary to Eastern Canada, Kenya and England. He served as a Stake President and in many other capacities, the last being the President of the Harare Zimbabne Mission.

On June 22, 1949, he married Lillis Remington in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a devoted companion and was serving with him at the time of his death in an auto accident in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe.Survivors: wife, Bountiful; sons and daughter, George Remington and wife Carolyn, St. Louis, Missouri; Dean Thomas and wife Lorraine, Odenton, Maryland; Nyman Charles, Arlington, Virginia and Mrs. Cy (Leslie) Castle, Salt Lake City; brother and sister, Samuel Brooks, Orem and Barbara Dean Merrell, Provo; nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Walker.

Funeral service Wednesday, August 8, 1990, 11:30am, Granite Stake Tabernacle, 2005 S. 900 East. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Tuesday 5:30-8pm and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
