A Kearns man was in serious condition Thursday with injuries he suffered in a fire at a radiator shop on Wednesday.

Gilbert Parker, 27, an employee at Sandy Radiator, 9140 S. State, was apparently dragging an automobile gas tank across the floor when a spark ignited it, Sandy Fire Battalion Chief Gary Child said."Between the heat of the day and the fumes in the tank, the spark was enough to ignite it," he said.

Parker suffered second-degree burns on the side of his face, on his neck, arms and down to his hip. He was taken to Alta View Hospital and then transported to the University of Utah Burn Center, where he was in serious condition, a nursing supervisor said.

Employees quickly doused the blaze with fire extinguishers, Child said. The structure sustained minimal damage.
