The University of Texas announced Friday that neither the school nor any of its athletes will be penalized by the NCAA for "minor violations" of rules involving gambling.

The university issued a brief statement saying it had been informed by the NCAA that a review of the school's internal investigation of the gambling charges had been completed.The issue arose last winter when the Austin American-Statesman quoted several Longhorn football players as saying that as many as 40 athletes, most of them football players, regularly placed bets with teammate Tal Elliott on college and professional sporting events.
