Grant Fuhr, the goaltender who backstopped the Edmonton Oilers to four Stanley Cups and who admitted to substance abuse over a seven-year period, was suspended by the National Hockey League for one year.

The ruling by NHL president John Ziegler came one day after a hearing was held in Toronto for Fuhr, who had been suspended after his drug use became public in a story in the Edmonton Journal on Aug. 31.
