The Washington Capitals got first-period goals from Todd Krygier, Dimitri Khristich and Mike Ridley and went on to a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers Friday night as they continued their best start in history with a 4-0 record.

Goalie Mike Liut posted his third win in three starts as the Capitals also tied a 1988 feat of winning their first three home games. Washington took sole possession of first place in the Patrick Division.Randy Burridge had two assists for the Capitals, who outshot the Rangers 32-27.
