A woman Friday accused rock star Billy Idol of beating her in the back seat of a car in which they were riding, the Sheriff's Department said.

Amber Nevel, 22, told deputies that at about 2 a.m. she was with the British rocker in a car being driven by the singer's manager."For reasons which aren't clear, Idol struck Nevel twice in the face with his fists," causing a large bruise on a her face and small cut inside her lips, Deputy Gabe Ramirez said.

"Idol's manager . . . stopped the car and both he and Idol got out and ran (eastbound on Sunset Boulevard at Holloway Drive).
