Typhoon Ruth pummeled a wide area of the Philippines' main island of Luzon on Monday, triggering volcanic mudflows and landslides and killing 15 people before heading for Vietnam.

Radio reports said at least 16 people were missing in the mountain resort city of Baguio in the northern Luzon region that bore the brunt of Ruth's destructive 127 mph winds.Nine people were killed in Baguio, including a family of three whose house was crushed by a falling tree Sunday. Six others died in landslides Monday, the Red Cross and police said.
