The nation's most deadbeat dad, a restaurant manager who was $100,000 behind in child support and other payments, was sentenced Wednesday to spend 18 months in prison.
Appearing shaken after the sentence was handed down, Gregory Morey, 35, a coffee shop manager from suburban Scottsdale, had been at the top of a "most wanted" list circulated last summer by the National Council of State Child Support Enforcement Administrators. He was sentenced by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Robert Gottfield on his guilty pleas to two felony counts of failing to provide child support.
Despite Morey's plea for leniency and his promise to make good on the $66,600 he promised to pay in an Oct. 2 agreement, the judge threw the book at him.
