The New York Rangers traded defenseman David Shaw to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Jeff Beukeboom, completing the future considerations portion of the deal that brought Mark Messier to the Rangers. The Rangers obtained Messier on Oct. 4 in exchange for Bernie Nichols, Steven Rice, Louie DeBrusk and future considerations.
