David Carradine says he was a kung-fu fake during his popular television series in the 1970s. While fans of "Kung Fu" looked to Carradine's character as a perfect disciple as he wandered the West studying the mysteries of the Tao, Carradine said he had no understanding of the Shaolin discipline. "I was a fake," he said. "When I left the series after four years I knew nothing about kung fu. At the time I did not understand it at all and I was faking it all the time even though I knew the moves. I am an actor. We just thought we had a good story." Carradine, in Australia to promote his new book, "Spirit of Shaolin," said it was not until six months after the series' cancellation in 1974 that he came to fully appreciate kung fu. "For some reason I decided to go back and take a class and then entered into what will probably be a lifelong disipline."
