Don Clifton Summers, age 70, passed away following a long andcourageous fight with cancer, on December 20, 1991, at his home in Salt Lake City.

Born September 6, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Tollie Clifton and Lola Melvina Barker Summers. He married Marian Louise Taylor on November 14, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Graduated from South High and attended LDS Business College. Owned and operated Summers Automotive service. He then went to work for State Farm Insurance Co and became their Utah Claims Superintendent. He served on an Intercompany Arbitration Committee for insurance companies.Active High Priest in the LDS Church, serving in many callings, including Bishop, a mission to the East Central States, a mission with his wife to London, England, stake mission president and as a tour guide at Temple Square. Active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers: charter member of the East Mill Creek Chapter; member, Canyon Rim Pioneer-Heritage Chapter; and member/past president of the Pioneer Heritage Chapter. He also served as the SUP national secretary and was a member of the national board. Served advisory committees at the Utah Boy's Ranch, and the Canyon Rim Citizen's Assoc.

His Christ-like love for family and his fellow men will always be remembered.

Survived by his wife Marian, of Salt Lake City; a son Kerry (and Carla) Summers, Orem; three daughters, Mrs. Walt (Shanna) Spicer, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Dan (Marlene) Merkling, Longmont, Colo.; and Mrs.Russ (Heather) Sturges, Bremerton, Wash.; two foster daughters, Mrs. Frank (Carmelita) Washburn and Mrs. Roger (Melissa) Begay; 18 grandchildren; six foster grandchildren; a brother, V. Ray (and Jeanie) Summers, Hyrum; and a sister, Mrs. Lynn (Rebecca) Davidson, also Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by sister, Melba Linde.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 24th, 1:00, at the Highland View First Ward, 2980 So 2790 East, with Bishop Scott Bringhurst officiating. Friends may call Monday, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 So 2300 East, and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund, 50 East North Temple (84103) Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
