Investigators believe a couple found dead in their home here are the victims of an apparent murder-suicide.

Morgan County Sheriff Bert Holbrook said Friday it appears Robert L. McCall, 61, killed his wife, Phyllis E. McCall, with a shotgun blast to the head sometime Wednesday morning.Holbrook said Phyllis McCall suffered from multiple sclerosis, and her condition had deteriorated in recent weeks.

"From the evidence we've gathered, it appears he just got up in the morning and shot her and then went out and shot himself," the sheriff said.

Holbrook said the woman's remains were found in her bed. McCall, a retired military man, was found dead in the attached garage, a shotgun next to his body.
