Lynn Anderson failed to bar the media from a Nashville, Tenn., courtroom in a custody battle with her former husband over their two children.

The 43-year-old singer, best known for the Grammy Award-winning song "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," had been awarded custody when her four-year marriage to oil man Harold "Spook" Stream III ended in divorce in 1982.But last year, Stream was granted custody based on allegations that Anderson and her longtime boyfriend, Mentor Williams, were abusing the children. The children, 11-year-old William and 9-year-old Melissa, are living with Stream in Lake Placid, N.Y.

On Friday, Circuit Judge Muriel Robinson denied Anderson's motion to bar reporters from covering the custody proceedings. A hearing to set a trial date will be held Tuesday.
