Melba LaVin Cook Hindley, age 87, of American Fork, died May 18, 1991 at American Fork.

She was born Jan. 27, 1904 in Cedar Fort, Utah to James Earl and Martha Caroline Hacking Cook. Married Ernest Hindley, August 24, 1928 in Nephi, Utah. She graduated from High School and went on to attend B.Y.U. She earned a teaching certificate and taught school until her marriage. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Chipman Department Store and taught at the Training School for many years. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church where she served in numerous leadership and teaching positions. She was active in community service, having served as president of the American Fork Garden Club and on the Old Folks Committee.She is survived by her husband Ern Hindley, and daughter, Linda Lou, of American Fork; two sons, James, Ft. Collins, Colorado; Earl, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Fon and Glen Cook and Evelyn Peterson, all of Cedar Fort. She was preceeded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Jean; her parents, three brothers and one sister, Ernil, Merlin, Leonard Lee, and Vera Carson.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 23, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork City Cemetery, where interment will take place. Funeral directors, Wing Mortuary, Lehi.
