Liberty Park will be closed to public vehicles beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, May 24, and will remain closed until 1 p.m. Saturday to prepare for the 14th annual Salt Lake City Classic and Sports Festival.
"The community will have access to regular facilities at Library Park. They will just have to walk a little farther," said Patty Brimley, race director.Tracy Aviary, one of the park's most popular attractions, will operate normal hours.
The classic, a full day of sporting and recreation activities and one of the largest sporting events of the summer, is expected to attract 15,000 participants and spectators.
Activities begin with the 5K race at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The Sports Festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include live entertainment, sports information and demonstrations. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Utah, event sponsors, will have a booth where free blood pressure and body fat checks will be given.
Races will begin at the Brigham Young Monument at Main Street and South Temple and end in Liberty Park. Volleyball and tennis will held throughout the day at the park.
