Mark Gastineau says he was a slow starter when he played defensive end with the New York Jets, usually getting to the quarterback in the fourth quarter and then breaking out into a "sack" dance.
Before he entered the ring for his professional boxing debut Saturday night, Gastineau said veteran trainer Jimmy Glenn advised him to be aggressive and take the fight to Derrick Dukes quickly.Gastineau took the suggestion literally. Dukes barely got his dukes up before he was out cold on the canvas. The official time for the knockout was 12 seconds, but the blow that put him away came about five seconds into the fight.
"Most of my sacks took longer," Gastineau said, who walked politely to his corner when the fight ended.
