Jennie Verl Nielsen Keefer, age 69, died June 17, 1991, of complications following a stroke.

She was born July 2, 1921 in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Andrew Wilford and Laura Jane Johnson Nielsen. On July 14, 1943 she married Paul Edward Keefer in Magna, Utah. He preceded her in death, January 20, 1983. Jennie Verl loved her nephews and nieces as much as if they were her own children. Many of their children called her Grandma Keefer and she referred to them as her grandchildren. As a member of the LDS Church, she taught Primary, Sunday School, Mutual, Relief Society and was 2nd Counselor in the M.I.A., as well as talk director. She was a Boy Scout leader for 43 years, and was a holder of both the Silver Beaver and Silver Beehive awards for Scouting. She was a volunteer at the medical library of St. Mark's Hospital for 15 years, as well as the University of Utah Ballet Dept. for the annual production of the Nutcracker. Jennie Verl was also known for her one-hundred-member boys' harmonica band, as well as for teaching mini-classes at Upland Terrace. She loved people and touched the lives of everyone who knew her with joy, humor, and inspiration. Her love for children and animals was her trademark.Survived by: son, Norman Paul Keefer, Salt Lake City; brothers, Floyd L. Nielsen, Magna; Hollis W. Nielsen, Scofield; sister, Mrs. George (Norma) Franks, Sebastopol, California.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 12 noon, June 21, 1991 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Drive, where friends may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m., and Friday, one hour prior to services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
