Elizabeth Eliza Bateman, beloved daughter, sister and friend, age 22, died Thursday morning, June 27, 1991.

Melissa was born on April 28, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dr. Lynn and Joan Bateman.Melissa attended Springville High School, Utah County, where she graduated with honors, competed with the tennis team, and was voted best actress of the drama club, FAA Queen, Prom Queen her sophomore and junior years, cheerleader, flag twirler, and secretary for the student council. She attended Rick's College, Rexburg, Idaho, and Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, where she was a member of BYUSA, and participated in a study abroad program in Vienna, Austria. She majored in Humanities and minored in German. She excelled in the Arts, water and snow skiing, and horsemanship.

Melissa was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which she served as Ward Family Home Evening Coordinator and Relief Society President. She served as a volunteer at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and worked as a medical assistant with her father for four years.

She is survived by her parents, her brothers, Brad Bateman of Portland, Oregon; Jeff Bateman of Boise, Idaho; Mathew Bateman of Mapleton, Utah; and her sisters, Arianne Nemelka of Springville; Kristen Bateman, and Alese Batemen of Mapleton, Utah; grandfather, Ray Pace of Spanish Fork; and grandmother, Helen Tarran; and Aunt Kathleen Bateman of Orem.

The funeral will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, at the Mapleton 1st Ward Chapel, 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, 6-8 p.m. Sunday or at the church Monday, at 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Oakridge School, Provo, Utah.
