Telly Savalas is about to get the recognition he has sought for 57 years - a schoolboy spelling award. The future Ko-jak won a spelling bee while he was a student at the Cobbett School in Lynn, Mass., in 1934 but never received the medal, which he called the "greatest frustration of my life." Cobbett School officials now plan to make up for the oversight. "I think we owe it to him," said teacher Arthur Fiste. "We'd like to have him come to the school and present it to him with a bag of lollipops, maybe." Savalas told the Boston Herald he's thrilled by the prospect. The spelling bee was sponsored by the now defunct Daily Rec-ord, a forerunner to the Herald, which also plans to present Savalas with one of its bronze newsboy awards.
