A man who raped and murdered an 11-year-old girl went silently to his death Monday in the electric chair.
Andrew Lee "Flash" Jones, 35, had argued that his execution should be delayed until Sept. 15, when the state switches to lethal injection.Asked if he wanted to make a final statement, he shook his head. Jones smiled at his lawyer and his spiritual adviser, then appeared to be holding back tears as he was strapped into the big wooden chair.
He was killed with alternating jolts of 2,000 and 500 volts.

It was the 20th execution in Louisiana and the 149th in the nation since the 1976 U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing states to resume capital punishment.
