Indeed a soft light was taken from earth, but in that instant a new star appeared in the heavens. Melva Martha Smart, a soft and gentle soal was called home on July 27, 1991.
She was born January 10, 1918 to Martin Adolphe Peterson and Salina Maud Sainsbury, and was the youngest of seven children. Melva was an active member of the LDS Church. On July 23, 1936 she married Grant L. Smart of East Millcreek. This holy union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, February 6, 1945. Her 73 years of life were burdened with numerous health problems, none of which stopped her from serving her beloved family and friends. She was indeed a tender soul, always working and caring for others. Melva's quiet, unassuming love and simple acceptance of others, was an example to everyone, and her life has enriched us all.Melva is survived by her husband, Grant L. Smart, children, David G. and Gloria Smart, Carol Jean and Robert Craig, Garry L. and Eileen Smart, Randy L. and Teri Smart, grandchildren, Tamara Parry, Jill Burton, Debbie Smart, Sherrie Graser, Heather, Shane, and Jacob Smart, great grandchildren, Joshua Parry, Crystal and Travis Burton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, 1991, 11 a.m. at the East Millcreek 2nd Ward, 3750 So. Hillside Lane. Friends and family may call at Memorial Estates, 5850 So. 900 East, Murray, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the ward one hour prior to services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
