A 24-year-old Utah woman who escaped a 20-year prison sentence in the Philippines for gun smuggling has been jailed for failing to pay restitution in an unrelated criminal-mischief incident.

Dominique Adams, who fled the Philippines last year with the help of a movie producer and promoter, was booked into the Utah County Jail on Wednesday and was being held on $660 cash bond. A jail spokeswoman said she either must pay that amount or spend 90 days in jail.Fourth Circuit Judge Lynn Davis issued a bench warrant Tuesday after hearing that Adams had failed to pay $425 in restitution from a 1989 criminal-mischief conviction.

The charge stems from an incident in which Adams kicked the windows out of a bartender's truck after being thrown out of an Orem bar.

The incident occurred just before Adams flew to the Philippines at the behest of entrepreneur Richard Dean Pedrioli, who promised her a job in exchange for accompanying several crates of auto parts to Manila.

Officials found 70 handguns in the crates, and Adams was arrested.

Pedrioli later was convicted of weapons charges and imprisoned in California.

Adams spent 10 months in the Philippines before fleeing the country with the help of three men who planned to make a movie of her ordeal. She was convicted in absentia in June 1990, three weeks after her escape, and sentenced to 17-20 years in prison.

The U.S. and Philippines have no extradition treaty, so Adams remained free.

Davis said Adams had been before him after her return from the Philippines and was instructed to begin paying the restitution, but she failed to do so.
