Over the years, Americans have come to know and respect Ethan Allen for home furnishings of superior quality and craftsmanship. Now, the company enters a new era by adding "classic" to their offerings.
This word has been captured in Ethan Allen's new American Impressions Collection.According to company president and chairman Farooq Kathwari, "The American Impressions Collection marks an important new direction for Ethan Allen. We have broadened our range of design to include this sophisticated look that fits the needs and lifestyles of today's consumers."
Those needs range from comfortably casual family areas to warmly inviting formal spaces, or the rustic charm of a country retreat to the sublime sophistication of an urban penthouse.
Customers who enter Ethan Allen stores will be introduced to this new collection of beds, tables, chairs, cupboards, accessories, window treatments and wall coverings.
Gone are the days of the living room set, Kathwari says. Instead, Ethan Allen has created a fresh approach to traditional design. Some of the surprising combinations include upholstered side chairs beside ladderbacks; faux leopard prints juxtaposed with regal Jacobean upholstery; and bold florals next to geometrics.
Realizing that no home is complete without a kitchen, Ethan Allen has recently launched its Kitchen Collection. This includes custom cabinetry, hand-glazed accent tiles, coordinated flooring and appliances. These kitchens are so versatile that they can be designed and fitted to any customer's specifications.
"Today, the kitchen is the heart of every American home," Kathwari said. "It is more than a place for cooking or eating; it is where major household decisions are made, homework is completed and guests are entertained."
The kitchen collection is available in several styles:
- The Farmhouse Pine, in a golden, rustic finish.
- Country French, in a warm fruitwood-washed bisque or white finish.
- Canterbury Oak, in light, dark or antique white finish.
- Georgian Court, in cherry wood finishes.
Although Ethan Allen has added the American Impression and Kitchen collections to its list, it will continue to carry tried and tested collections. There are armoires, china closets, beds (spindle, poster and bunk), upholstered arm chairs and sofas, desks, vanities, chests of drawers - an much, much more.
Ethan Allen's 18th-century Mahogany Collection pays tribute to the artistry of the English masters through faithful attention to detail. Rich veneers with satinwood inlays and superb design characteristics have made this style a true classic. Whether in a formal dining room of in an airy living room, the warmpieces in this collection are always at home.
The Country Craftsman Collection is inspired by the rural furnishings of 17th and 18th century America - made timeless by its clean lines and practicality. The solid pine pieces, available in a light finish, have a time-worn antique look.
They are superb examples of the perfect merging of form and function. For example, a tall jelly cupboard turns empty space into out-of-the-way storage; a blanket chest stores winter woolens while serving as a bedside table; and a versatile chest with H-hinged doors provides an aesthetic camouflage for entertainment equipment.
The Old World Treasures Collection recalls the world of 17th and 18th century England and France. Some highlights in this collection are a triple-chime floor clock, a filigreed brass chandelier and lavish window treatments.
In addition to the home furnishings and accessories, Ethan Allen hires personnel and designers who are committed to meeting the customers' needs. "Our designers provide a superior level of expertise and personal attention . . . ," Kathwari said.
Because of its commitment to tailor its furniture and accessories to the needs and lifestyles of today's customer, Ethan Allen is an invigorating, exciting place to shop for the `total home.'
The company has over 300 galleries and 26 manufacturing facilities. Retail sales last year were in excess of $650 million.
Ethan Allen showcases its complete home collection of furnishings, upholstery, wall and floor cov-erings, window treatment and accessories in its 260-page annual catalog and a 32-page quarterly magazine. These are mailed to more than 10 million Ethan Allen customers.
