Brigham Young University officials say they don't know anything about a USA Today report that Kentucky basketball player Todd Bearup plans to transfer to BYU.
The newspaper reported in its Thursday edition that Bearup was headed for Provo after a season in which he walked-on for the Wildcats. Bearup played just 29 minutes as a sophomore guard/forward after transferring to Kentucky from Utah State.Thursday, BYU athletic director Glen Tuckett and sports information director Ralph Zobell both said the USA Today story was the first they had heard about Bearup becoming a Cougar. Basketball coach Roger Reid was out of town and unavailable for comment.
A 6-foot-6, 215 pounder from London, Ky., Bearup played for the Aggies during the 1986-87 season, appearing in 19 games and averaging just over seven minutes per game. For the season, he scored 37 points and grabbed 39 rebounds.
After that season Bearup went on an LDS church mission to Korea. He was expected to return to the Aggie program for the 1989-90 season, and was even included in the team's media guide that year.
