Officers didn't bark up the wrong tree when they traced a dog left behind in a convenience store holdup to a robbery suspect.
The robber was in such a hurry, he didn't even pause to untie his pet, whose dog tags led to the police collar, authorities said.Clarence Craig Anderson, 39, was charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery. He was being held on $20,000 bail.
His dog, Bear, was taken to the Multnomah County Animal Shelter.
Bart Whalen, spokesman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Department, said a man walked into a convenience store Tuesday and demanded money. The man, who said he had a gun, threatened a clerk and fled with $10, Whalen said.
When deputies arrived, they found a dog tied up outside the store. A witness told them the robber had left the dog. The animal had a license, and county records listed Anderson as the owner, Whalen said.
He later surrendered to police.
