The Blockbuster Bowl plans an increased payout to at least $2 million for its Dec. 28 game at Joe Robbie Stadium, compared with $1.65 million for the inaugural game last year.

"We're going to raise the stakes," said H. Wayne Huizenga, Blockbuster Entertainment Corp. chairman. "Blockbuster doesn't want to be an ordinary bowl. If it means going to a higher payout, we're going to do what it takes to get the job done."The move is a response, in part, to the formation of an alliance of four bowls, Notre Dame and the Atlantic Coast and Big East conferences.
