Brigham Young University President Rex Lee has been chosen as the Utah delegate to represent the American Cancer Society on the 20th anniversary of the National Cancer Act.
Lee will join 57 cancer survivors on Sept. 23 in Washington, D.C., as part of a two-day observance to commemorate passage of the 1971 act. Passage of the act marked the first time the president of the United States focused on one disease, giving substantial financial support to battle that disease."I owe the fact that I am alive today to the faith and prayers of many people and to the miracles of modern science," Lee said. "I recognize that at the forefront of what medical science has been able to do in combatting cancer has been the American Cancer Society."
Lee has gone through extensive treatment for T-cell immunoblas-tic lymphoma, confirmed by an X-ray and CAT scan. His cancer now is in remission.
