Stats: Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Scranton, Pa. as Emma Matzo. Studied at Marywood College, Scranton, Pa., Alvienne School of Drama, New York. Never married.Early years: Scott did stock in Virginia and toured in "Hellzapoppin" before she had her big break in theater understudying Tallulah Bankhead in "The Skin of Our Teeth" in 1942. She was spotted in a magazine ad and signed to a movie contract. After two failed screen tests, producer Hal Wallis took over her career, starred her in her first movie "You Came Along" in 1945.

Famous for: Scott had a low, husky voice that she said her early drama teachers didn't like and tried to make her raise it. She was publicized as "a threat" to Lauren Bacall and Veronica Lake, whom she resembled.

In recent years: Her movie career ended in 1957 with "Loving You" except for a 1972 British film "Pulp." She did the narration for a TV cat food commercial and occasional TV roles. She has faded from view in recent years.
