Carla Romrell left college after her first year to get married. Six years and three children later, Romrell returned to campus at Utah State University to work on a degree in elementary education. This year Romrell, now a junior, has received a financial boost from the USU Community Credit Union in the form of a scholarship.

Romrell, 27, and Jodi Peterson, 33, both of Logan, were recently awarded the newly created USU Community Credit Union Scholarships for 1991-92. The scholarships, $500 each, were funded through a $1,000 gift from the credit union to the USU Women's Center. Peterson, a junior, is a single parent with two children still at home. She resumed her education at USU in 1987 after an 11-year gap.The USU Community Credit Union Scholarships were designed primarily with re-entry students like Romrell and Peterson in mind, said Dennis Child, USU Community Credit Union president.

"Students coming back to school after a gap in their education face many challenges," Child said. "We want to help them reach their educational goals. We also want to be more involved in the education process here in the valley. We've also funded scholarships for students at Bridgerland Applied Technology Center and within the local school districts."
