Actor Andy Griffith and movie director Ron Howard - Sheriff Taylor and son, Opie, on "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 1960s - were reunited when Howard presented Griffith with a lifetime achievement award.

Howard, who was just 6 years old when he debuted as Opie, presented the award Thursday at the National Association of Television Programming Executives' annual convention in New Orleans."This is wonderful, just wonderful," Griffith said. "I can't tell you how much it means to me."

The CBS comedy, set in fictitious Mayberry, N.C., began in 1960 and ran for eight years. It remains popular in reruns.
