Hollywood child star Freddie Bartholomew, who starred in "David Copperfield" and "Little Lord Fauntleroy" in the 1930s, has died of emphysema, a hospital spokesman said Friday. He was 67.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Bartholomew began his acting career at age 4 while living with his aunt, Mylicent Mary Bartholomew, in Warminster in southern England. He was discovered by MGM at age 10 and became an overnight star for his portrayal of the title role in "David Copperfield."By 1937, when he starred in "Captains Courageous," he was the second highest paid child star after Shirley Temple but was unable to make the transition from child actor to adult star.
