Nu Skin International Inc. formalized a settlement Thursday with a former distributor who filed a $75 million class-action lawsuit against the company last year.

Patricia Arata, Watsonville, Calif., claimed in August that the Provo-based multilevel marketing firm bilked its more than 100,000 independent distributors of $75 million. Arata claimed she lost $4,000 trying to sell Nu Skin's personal-care products.Attorneys for Nu Skin and Arata reached a tentative agreement to the dispute last November. U.S. District Judge Fern M. Smith granted final approval Thursday in San Francisco.

Under the settlement, Nu Skin formalized a policy allowing distributors to return unopened and unused products and sales aids for 90 percent refund.
