Figures released Monday show that Princess Diana's father, who died in March, left the bulk of his $143.5 million fortune in a trust fund for his children and grandchildren, although he did give Diana's two offspring $1,600 each.
Edward John Spencer, the eighth Earl of Spencer, died March 29 at age 68.His will, unsealed Monday, showed that most of his fortune took the form of his family estate, Althorp, as well as its furnishings.
Princess Diana's first recorded ancestor, Sir John Spencer, acquired Althorp in the 16th century.
In 1975, Diana's father inherited the estate - along with a large debt against the property, as well as heavy inheritance taxes.
Spencer originally planned to sell replicas of Princess Diana's wedding dress to raise money for the property but dropped the idea after it attracted sharp criticism.
