A BYU player was finally recognized by the WAC and Utah State's hard-charging football team pulled off a rare Big West Conference double this week.
The Cougars' Jamal Willis was named the Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week and the Aggies landed both the offensive and defensive players of the week awards for Saturday's 48-8 win over UNLV.
Willis, a sophomore running back, rushed 16 times for a season-high 149 yards and scored three touchdowns in BYU's 35-0 victory over New Mexico.Quarterback Anthony Calvillo had a career-best day for the Aggies, throwing for 23-for-34 for 342 yards, three touchdowns and running 29 yards for another score. He was intercepted once but has been picked off just four times in his last 249 throws.
On defense for Utah State, it was linebacker Jermaine Younger gaining the league award - the third time in four weeks that USU has gotten the BWC defensive POW. Younger had 18 tackles, seven solo, an interception and a pass break-up.
