Lorna Crockett Birchall, age 80, a woman of faith and fortitude, died November 9, 1992.

Born January 5, 1912 in Green River, Wyoming to David Smith Crockett and Zella Steven Crockett, she was the eldest of seven chidren. Mrs. Birchall grew up in Ogden, Utah, where she graduated from high school. After attending Weber State College and Brigham Young University, she taught school for five years in the Ogden City School District. On May 28, 1937, she married Thomas Dargue Birchall in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She later received her Bachelor's degree in education as a member of one of the first graduating classes from California State University Stanislaus.A long time resident of Turlock and Modesto, California, Mrs. Birchall actively served her communities as an advocate for youth, teaching literacy skills, establishing water safety and swimming programs as a Red Cross volunteer, as a leader in the Republican Women and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many leadership positions, she was also a temple worker in the Oakland Temple for 16 years and served as a volunteer at the Family History Center.

Survivors: husband, Thomas D. Birchall; sisters and brother, Marion Jensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jean Brown of Ogden; Paul Crockett (serving a mission in the Philippines); sons, daughters and spouses, Steven and Victoria Birchall of Alpine, Utah; John and Susan Birchall of Hughson, Calif.; Paul and Karyn Birchall of Fresno, Calif.; and Rebecca and J. Scott Dorius of Turlock, Calif.; also 20 wonderful grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Modesto on Saturday, November 14, 1992 at 11:00 a.m., at the Sylvan Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 800 Sylvan Road, at the corner of Dragoo Park and Sylvan, one block East of McHenry Blvd. Calif. arrangements are being made through Lakewood Mortuary of Empire.

A graveside service will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Monday, November 16, 1992, at 3:00 p.m. The plot is located at the intersection of Central and Grand. Arrangements, in Utah are being made through Larkin Mortuary, in Salt Lake City.
