G. Wayne Clark, former Salt Lake businessman and first president of the Salt Lake Better Business Bureau, died Nov. 19, 1992. He was 91.
Mr. Clark was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Nov. 27, 1900. He moved to Utah with his family after high school and attended the University of Utah during the 1920s.He began working at Auerbach Co. as a men's and boys' furnishings salesman in 1931. His career at the department store spanned more than 40 years and he advanced to general cashier, assistant office manager, office manager, and in 1945, he became controller, supervising the store's overall fiscal operations and real estate interests.
In 1969 Mr. Clark was named corporation secretary and assumed the additional title of treasurer in 1972.
Mr. Clark was instrumental in founding the Salt Lake Better Business Bureau in 1964 and was elected president of the bureau in 1965. He was active in the Methodist Church and acted in several community dramatic productions. He also served on the board of directors and acted as treasurer for the Pioneer Craft House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community projects.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Nov. 24, at noon at Memorial Estates, 5850 S. 900 East, in Murray.
