Divers recovered the body Thursday of British yachtsman Nigel Burgess who was lost during the Globe Challenge single-handed, round-the-world race.
The coast guard at Etel on France's Atlantic coast said French navy divers had retrieved Burgess' body off the coast of Galicia, in northwestern Spain, after a 14-hour search by French and Spanish helicopter and diving teams. He was found a few miles from his vessel, "Nigel Burgess Yachtbrokers," and his lifeboat, which had both been found floating empty.
Burgess, a British national based in Monaco, was the second sailor in the race to meet disaster.
Last month the boat of yachtsman Mike Plant was found empty north of the Azores Islands as the American was making his way across the Atlantic to the start. Rescuers have said there is little chance of finding him alive.
