Parents: Troyal Raymond Brooks and Colleen Carroll Brooks, who recorded for Capitol Records during the 1950s. Brooks also has four brothers - including his tour manager, Kelly - and a sister, Betsy Smittle, who plays bass in his Stillwater band.Family: Married fellow Oklahoma State University student Sandy Mahl in 1986. Daughter Taylor Mayne Pearl Brooks born July 8, 1992.

Education: Graduated in 1984 with a degree in advertising from Oklahoma State University.

Sports: During high school he played football, basketball and baseball and ran track; under a partial athletic scholarship at OSU he threw the javelin.
