STATS: Born Nov. 28, 1931, in Redding Ridge, Conn. Attended Reed College, Portland, Ore. Married twice: to actor Don Murray (1956-61), two children; producer Alan J. Pakula (1963-70).IN EARLY YEARS: The daughter of a Broadway composer/arranger and an actress, Lange made her professional debut on stage in "The Patriots" at 12. Later, she worked at modeling, TV commercials and as a TV dancer ("The Jackie Gleason Show") and actress ("Playhouse 90"). She made her movie debut in "Bus Stop" in 1956 and received a Oscar nomination as supporting actress for her third film, 1957's "Peyton Place." Her other movies include "The Young Lions" and "Pocketful of Miracles."
FAMOUS FOR: She won two Emmys for her work in the 1968-70 TV series "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir."
IN RECENT YEARS: She did another series, "The New Dick Van Dyke Show," 1971-74, and continued to work in features and TV movies. In late 1991, she underwent successful surgery for a benign brain tumor. She lives in New York.
