The corners of Regent and Oxford streets, which are among London's premier shopping streets, are deserted at noon Wednesday. Earlier, five people needed medical treatment as two explosions from suspected IRA bombs in the West End emptied the streets of Christmas shoppers on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. One bomb exploded in a men's restroom of a department store, shattering windows and panicking shoppers; and the other, hidden in a trash bin, exploded 13 minutes later, wrecking a car parked behind the store. Three people suffered minor cuts, another had an asthma attack and a fifth was treated for shock.
