Rodney Egan, 79, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away December 12, 1992 at home in Portland, Oregon, of complications from a stroke suffered in May of 1979.
He was born August 4, 1913 in Bountiful, Utah, to Horace Fredric Egan and Evaline Eliza Benson Egan. He married Dorothy Lillian Nielson, Jan. 27, 1940; later solemnized November 9, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from West High School. A salesman all his life, from which he found great enjoyment. Started working for Sinclair Refining Co. at the age of 14. He also worked for Richfield Oil, Jensen Refining and Oakite Products, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Cedar City, Utah. He was an officer in that organization and also received national recognition for his safety program for them.Served in the High Council of Highland Stake. Served as Bishop of Crystal Heights 2nd Ward. When his job with Oakite was transferred to Portland, Oregon, in 1966; he served on the High Council of Beaverton Stake. He served in many leadership positions throughout his adult life in the church. He enjoyed camping, hunting, traveling and his horses.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 52 years and their children, Claudia Jane Egan Leavenworth and husband, Harry; Roger Kent Egan and wife, Barbara; Bryant Howard Egan and wife, Kathy; he was blessed with 12 grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and two sisters. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 1992, 10 a.m., Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Drive, where friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
